Holiday rentals in Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada is the southernmost ski resort in Europe and the highest in Spain: the village of Pradollano sits at around 2,100 metres, with lifts climbing past 3,000 towards the Veleta. Its latitude gives it something no other resort has: long days, plenty of sun, and the genuine option of skiing in the morning and being on the beach by the afternoon.

Granada is just 32 kilometres away, so the Alhambra and the Albaicín fit into the same trip. We offer accommodation in Pradollano and, for our guests, 12% off the lift pass plus ski equipment hire.

The resort and its slopes

Sierra Nevada revolves around Pradollano, the village where the accommodation, shops and main lift departures are. From there you reach the Borreguiles, Laguna de las Yeguas, Loma de Dílar and Veleta sectors, with more than a hundred runs and a vertical drop of over 1,200 metres.

The ski area is broad and very sunny, with long blue runs ideal for progressing and black and off-piste terrain higher up. There is a snowpark, a beginners’ area at Borreguiles and night skiing on selected dates through the season.

Above it all stand mainland Spain’s two highest peaks: the Veleta (3,396 m) and the Mulhacén (3,479 m), both inside the Sierra Nevada National Park.

Season, lift passes and equipment

The ski season usually opens in late November or December and runs to late April or early May — one of the longest in Spain, thanks to the altitude and snowmaking.

January, February and March bring the most snow and the liveliest atmosphere. December and April tend to offer better accommodation rates, though which runs are open depends on snow conditions.

As a Guestyz guest you get 12% off your lift pass plus ski equipment hire — skis, boots, poles or a board. Message us on WhatsApp before you arrive and we will book both alongside your stay.

Sierra Nevada in summer

Outside the snow season, Sierra Nevada becomes a mountain destination with mild temperatures while the valleys bake. The National Park offers hiking routes at every level, including the ascent of the Mulhacén, and lifts run in summer to give access to the high mountain.

It is also an established cycling destination: the climbs up from Granada are cycle-touring classics, and there is a bike park with mountain-bike descents. The observatories and the quality of the sky make it a good place for stargazing.

Summer accommodation is considerably cheaper than in ski season, and the resort keeps its basic services open.

Getting to Pradollano

From Granada it is a 45-minute drive up the A-395 (32 km). Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén airport (GRX) is around 50 km away; Málaga (AGP) is about 160 km, with more international connections. Regular buses run from Granada bus station in season.

On heavy snow days chains or winter tyres may be required on the access road, so check conditions before heading up. Pradollano is largely pedestrianised and many properties are metres from the lifts, so once you are up there the car can stay parked.
